When Should a Small Business Hire an HR Person?

Generally speaking, when you reach 125 employees you might need a full-time HR person.  Until then, using a high-level fractional or shared HR person can help you reach your Company’s Vision.

These are some of the things we find the business and their leaders need:

  • Awareness of changes in local, state, and federal laws which will require implementation of changes to processes and procedures and the employee handbook

  • Hiring and employee onboarding and retention including implementation of automation to complete these tasks efficiently

  • Managing performance review process including automation

  • Auditing the key areas most employee lawsuits are caused by including: misclassification of employees status, inaccurate time records, I-9 form errors, inadequately maintained personnel files

  • Help managing employee relations issues like turf wars, attendance, and backbiting

  • Strategic help dealing with the impact of growth or decline on the number of employees needed

If you find yourself spending too much time dealing with these issues rather than focusing on growing the business, it’s time to get HR support.
