7 Things Remote Working Employees Need to Succeed

As we come out of the pandemic, some companies are deciding on how to organize their workforce.  Should they have a hybrid workforce working part-time in the office and part-time at home? Should all employees be required to return to the office? Or should employees be allowed to choose to work remotely, full-time?

If you opt for a hybrid or fully remote approach, your remote employees’ needs will be slightly different from those working solely on the premises.

Here are the top things remote workers need:

  • Better hardware/equipment (e.g. laptop, two monitors, printers, a desk & chair)

  • Rewarding new experiences, training, and learning opportunities

  • Ways to make sure they are integrated with their team

  • Clear rules that establish the times when they must be available

  • Good mobile experiences to share data and use work applications

  • Greater flexibility in taking time off and working hours

  • Help managing workloads and priorities

Remote workers add an extra challenge from a management standpoint.  You must ensure the old adage “out of sight, out of mind” does not apply.  Make sure you set up team communications as well as one-on-one communications with remote employees, and that they still have a clear path to progression in your business.

The above list is a good starting place for businesses trying to create a healthy environment for their remote working employees.
